OVER A MILLION JOIN TOI’s ANTI-GRAFT CAMPAIGN

Over a million people have cast their votes on The Times of India's online campaign — ACT (Against Corruption Together) — in what is clearly emerging as one of the biggest ever voting exercises in the virtual world. And the numbers have been steadily rising. In a matter of just 3 days, from Aug 18 to 20, votes on the site zoomed from 3.7 lakh to upwards of 12 lakh, with almost 14,000 votes being added every hour — a record for any news site. The outburst, coming from men and women, old and young, has been unprecedented. Those who logged on to the site have expressed anger, outrage and a hitherto unseen intolerance against corruption. There are 31,818 comments on the campaign page as of Saturday, and the number is rapidly growing. Considering that on an average, an issue on the internet elicits 300-500 comments, this may also rank as a record of sorts, indicating how people — both offline and online — want to be a part of the battle against corruption.
